O’Neal (Oliver)

Platform: Paramount+, NOW, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Sky Store

Director: Arthur Hiller

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Love. What’s that like? Well, look no further. ‘Love Story’ walks you through the life of a young couple whose ending is determined by fate. When people ask me how I spend my weekend evenings, the answer tends to be bundled up in a blanket with a snack in hand and a TV remote in the other. This is my first film review, so no judgement! On Sunday night, when I was 5 minutes into this cosy watch, a ping came from my phone. My mum had shared that my nanny (who recently passed, rest in peace) loved this film. So, I was determined to find out why she enjoyed this and labelled it as one of her favourites. Immediately, I began to put pen to paper and jotted down my thoughts on ‘Love Story’.

The film opened on a winter’s day at an ice rink with soft, classical music. The audience is introduced to one of the leads with the male character narrating the line, “a 25-year-old who died.” IMMEDIATELY, this shows the film’s cyclical structure and the spoilt ending. The writer succeeds in placing curiosity into the audience. We now wonder how the character reaches this conclusion.

In the following scene, we are introduced to the female lead: Jenny. The dialogue is sarcastic and witty as we peer into the financial background of Oliver.

In my opinion, I viewed the first 1/3 of this film as rushed. The scenes are very quick between the two love interests, and the writers don’t allow us to build a connection with the characters. This attempted and failed character building felt confusing, random and almost as if there was no storyline.

However, the writers successfully fed into the rich family stereotype. In the dinner scene with Oliver’s parents, the dynamics are bitter and cold. Whilst the leads acted wonderfully in this, I was obsessed with Ray Milland’s (who plays Oliver’s father) acting. He perfectly portrayed a cold, stern father and was very believable!

Ali MacGraw (plays Jennifer) looked gorgeous in this movie! Especially in a low ponytail... Oliver made the right choice. She played her role wonderfully and she showed a look of genuine love on her face. Also, Ryan O’Neal (plays Oliver) showed signs of real love as well. In the scene at the doctor’s office, the line O’Neal shared broke me. “She’s only 24. Will it be painful...What do I do?” My eyes watered. Well done to the writers and the camera team too for those close-up shots. This scene felt personal, and emotions were heightened. Whilst I feel the actors could’ve been more emotional in the final scenes, they done a tremendous job earlier on in the film.

Finally, the music. Holy peak! Jenny’s classical taste conveyed the moods of certain scenes at times. It was truly beautiful. This film was beautiful!

Overall, this engaging central romance and universal emotional resonance is perfect for a chill and relaxed watch. The film might feel boring to some because the only storyline is love. However, if the writers added more to the plot and characters, this film would definitely reach high ratings!

Plot: ♥️♥️♥️/ 5

Characters: ♥️♥️♥️/ 5

Pacing: ♥️♥️♥️/ 5

Writing Style: ♥️♥️♥️/ 5

Camera: ♥️♥️♥️♥️/ 5

Music: ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️/ 5

Acting: ♥️♥️♥️/ 5

Enjoyment: ♥️♥️♥️/ 5

OVERALL: ♥️♥️♥️/ 5

The Timing Behind ‘Michael Jackson: The Verdict’ Raises Questions

Why Are Old Michael Jackson Allegations Returning to Headlines Again?

RosalieReviews

Two months ago, the sensational ‘Michael’ movie was released. Now, in just a few short weeks, Netflix will release its own spin on things. ‘Michael Jackson: The Verdict’. Is this a coincidence or why are we reopening this already won debate? Curious timing.

Michael Jackson has been proven innocent. A famous quote on this topic has recently been trending on TikTok: “He touched hearts; not parts.” During the legendary time of the King of Pop, he frequently stated that he was innocent. However, his voice was not heard amongst the crowd of hyenas that claimed he was guilty of child molestation. This all began in 1993 with a boy named Jordan Chandler. Jordan was 13 at the time when he shared to his father, Evan Chandler, that Michael Jackson had allegedly molested him. Michael’s once friend had publicly accused the singer of sexual abusing his son. This was only the beginning… Another recent spark of news has been the Epstein Files. How does Michael tie into this? Was he one of Jeffrey Epstein’s pals? NO! He was the opposite. Michael Jackson created his famous island “Neverland” to SAVE those children from the vile circumstances they suffered from. Michael Jackson has been proven innocent. Innocent.

‘The Verdict’. The only real verdict is why are Netflix only releasing this now? The timing has led to speculation among fans. Below is a clear outline of the timeline for the two projects:

Michael, The Biopic

First officially announced: January 2022

Filming began: January 2024

Filming wrapped: May 2024. However, a later OFFICIAL “wrap” announcement was made in August 2025…

Release: April 2026

Michael Jackson: The Verdict, Documentary

First officially announced: 20th May 2026

Filming: No official filming dates. Fans are almost certain it was produced during 2025–2026, but no verified source currently gives an exact production start date.

Release: 3rd June 2026

Interesting… During the filming of ‘Michael’, this upcoming documentary was also being planned and filmed behind the scenes. Before the film was released, it was already a predicted hit. Everyone knew. The contrast between these two are like Wednesday and Enid’s relationship. The biopic focuses on a wholesome side of MJ’s life, whilst this documentary will focus on a negative side of MJ’s life. How do I know this? Another interesting point. The producer of this upcoming documentary just so happens to have produced an earlier documentary titled ‘Living with Michael Jackson’. Who could this be?

James Goldston. There’s definitely evidence that James Goldston was involved in projects that many Michael Jackson supporters believe portrayed Jackson negatively — but there is not clear public evidence of Goldston personally expressing hatred or direct dislike toward Michael Jackson himself. Key words: “public”, “direct” and “clear”. That documentary became one of the most controversial moments in Jackson’s later life because of how it presented him, especially the scenes discussing children sleeping in his room. In interviews afterward, Goldston defended the documentary and said: “We didn’t make any direct allegations of any kind.” That’s important because publicly, Goldston framed the documentary as observational journalism rather than an anti-Jackson attack. However, many Jackson supporters do interpret his editorial decisions as evidence of bias. The criticism mainly comes from the documentary’s editing, dramatic framing, and role in reigniting public suspicion before the 2005 trial. It’s clear the programme intentionally emphasised uncomfortable or sensational moments while minimising Jackson’s explanations or positive interactions.

It’s been 17 years since the beloved King of Music departed from our world. His grave may say “Rest in Peace”. But can he, if monsters like Goldston keep targeting him? For the sake of the generations, he protected: Let the man rest peacefully.

Enjoy this? Another masterpiece has been released as the lead single from her upcoming album, ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’, and I have high hopes – this song guarantees it.

🎧 SOUND & PRODUCTION

→ Coming into this song I was expecting a sad pop tune. However, the song opens with repeated, upbeat synth sounds, marking this song as cheery. When the first chorus is concluded, the drumkit is added to increase the energy levels; the synth sounds decrease whilst we focus on the beats of the drum and Rodrigo’s gorgeous vocals. Then, whenever we come to the guitar solo, it’s clear that not only this song is a synth-pop, but it includes elements of pop rock as well.

📝 LYRICS & MEANING

→ I find in Olivia Rodrigo’s songs that she doesn’t challenge herself with the lyrics. Personally, I found them quite dry and basic. I will admit they are memorable, and they do show the emotions she feels, but they should tell instead. From the lyrics, we know that this is your typical song about girl wants boy. (This tends to be a common theme in modern pop music, so this didn’t surprise me.) Recently though, dating rumors have sparked between her and Cameron Winter (the musician from the band, ‘Geese’). Am I sensing a link here...?

🎤 VOCALS

→ Her vocals never fail to blow me away. Rodrigo’s clear, crisp diction ensures to satisfy the listener as well as those high notes produced. Olivia Rodrigo’s head voice certainly suits her, and I pray that she uses it more frequently in the upcoming album.

💭 VIBE / FEELING

→ This could be played on any joyous occasion. Parties, social events, or even in your bedroom getting ready in the morning – this song will bring positive vibes to your day. This song’s ecstatic vibes allow the listener to belt this song out (with a hairbrush as a microphone) at the top of their lungs. This song is 100% thrilling!

🔁 REPLAY VALUE

→ Yes. Yes. Yes. (And 1,00 more.) I could never be sick of this song, in fact, I might even make it my new alarm, or, I could go nuts and say, ringtone! - I’ll look like one of the cool kids now. As soon as ‘drop dead’ starts blaring from my phone, not only will I know it’s probably my mum making sure I know where to walk after school, but I’ll be in an uplifting mood thanks to Olivia Rodrigo.

🔥 BEST PART

→ Can we talk about that first chorus? Whenever the drumkit comes in, I was not expecting the song to go from upbeat to EXCITING!! I even did a little boogie at this part because it called for a dance break. I was having so much fun in my quiet house with headphones on, blasting this tune. So, thank you to Olivia for allowing me to get a couple minutes of movement in the morning! In fact, I’m adding this to my playlist on Spotify.

😬 CRITICISMS

→ One thing... It felt slow, I feel like the timing could be slightly quicker. If it had been that way, my energy levels would have been skyrocketing!

💭 PERSONAL THOUGHTS

→ Honestly, I loved it - if that hasn’t been said enough. Olivia Rodrigo never fails to excite me. If this is the lead single for her new upcoming album, then I will say it might be a masterpiece. I love the energy this song brings (especially since I’m listening to it at 6am before school, on a Monday morning), Miss Rodrigo has done a very swell job. Also, special mention to Amy Allen and Dan Nigro for co-writing this song, it sounds wonderful.

⭐ FINAL VERDICT

Lyrics: 7 /10

Vocals: 10 /10

Overall Vibe: 9 /10

OVERALL: 8.5 /10

📣 WOULD I RECOMMEND?

→ Yes / No / Depends

→ Congratulations to Olivia Rodrigo for producing this banger! Special mention to the piano chords; they added to my everlasting sadness.

📝 LYRICS & MEANING

→ The lyrics in this song use storytelling and allow us to glimpse into Olivia Rodrigo’s relationship life. One lyric that stood out to me the most was “I know we weren’t perfect, but I’ve never felt this way for no one” - floods of tears are streaming down my face right now. This line impacted the song the most as it tells the listeners that love doesn’t have to be perfect to be love.

🎤 VOCALS

→ The vocals were the most incredible part of this tune. Rodrigo’s raw emotion shined through crisp diction, a controlled voice, and especially in those high notes. Finally, she brings it all down to conclude in a softer, head voice – this really suits her.

💭 VIBE / FEELING

→ This is my number one heartbreak anthem! Recently went through a rough breakup? (Not that I would know about that...! Men steer clear from me.) Stick on this gut-wrenching banger – it will not disappoint.

🔁 REPLAY VALUE

→ I could have this song on repeat for hours, knowing that I will never be sick of this addictive tune.

🔥 BEST PART

→ The bridge is not spoken about ENOUGH. I’m going to sound like Stefan Salvatore whenever I say this, but EMOTIONS ARE HEIGHTENED as the sound increases, the raw lyrics come in, and Olivia Rodrigo’s vocals amaze.

😬 CRITICISMS

→ There is a reason this is Rodrigo’s number one song of all time. However, the only complaint I have is that the instrumentation is repetitive throughout – don’t be afraid to add in some synths as the song progresses.

💭 PERSONAL THOUGHTS

→ When tying together all the elements that make this song fantastic, ‘drivers license’ achieves a melody that separates it from the rest of pop culture and succeeds in fulfilling listener expectations.

⭐ FINAL VERDICT

Lyrics: 9 /10

Vocals: 10 /10

Overall Vibe: 9 /10

OVERALL: 9 /10

📣 WOULD I RECOMMEND?

→ Yes / No / Depends

→ Petition to make this the heartbreak anthem of the year?
